RO Feed Pump and Booster Pump Selection

An RO feed or booster pump should be selected at the required operating duty. For a Sabah facility, identify where the pump sits in the water process and what flow and pressure it must provide. A motor-power figure alone is not enough to establish suitability.

Use the duty point and system conditions

Provide the required flow and head or pressure, incoming supply conditions and the liquid information relevant to selection. Include losses through the connected equipment and pipework in the engineering review. Check the chosen pump’s curve and operating limits against the proposed duty. Confirm the control arrangement and compatibility with the treatment process.

Define the pump duty point before comparing motor power

An RO feed pump or booster must provide the required flow at the pressure or head established by the system review. Include incoming supply, pipework and connected treatment equipment in that assessment. Compare the pump curve and operating limits, not just motor power. For replacement work, investigate restrictions and other process faults before treating the pump as the cause.

A selection mistake to avoid

An RO feed or booster pump is selected for its hydraulic duty. A chemical metering pump serves a different dosing duty and should be assessed for that specific function.

What should be sent for an RO pump replacement enquiry?

The nameplate, original duty information, current readings, suction conditions, power supply and the connected process arrangement. SWFI can review suitable sourcing requirements.

Planning the enquiry in Sabah

SWFI supports pump enquiries for treatment and industrial applications. Send the existing pump nameplate and performance observations when replacing equipment. Describe suction conditions, available power and normal operating hours. The review should distinguish a pump problem from restrictions or other faults elsewhere in the system before deciding on replacement.

Information to prepare

Is matching motor power sufficient for a replacement?

No. Pumps with similar motor power can have different operating characteristics. Compare the duty point and the complete specification.
